How GrowPin grows

The King’s-board idea, rebuilt so it can be printed and worn as a liner — not as a bed of sliding pins inside the socket.

Nubs take the shape

45° TPU nubs on each collet finger compress against the residual limb. Fresh fit: lightly loaded. That is the pin-art surface, made printable without supports.

Collet opens with growth

Fingers are slotted like a chuck. Loosen the BOA/cord as circumference grows. The outer PA-CF frame stays put — only the inner breathes.

Reprint the cheap part

When nubs are flat and the cord is fully open, print a new liner overnight. Keep the frame. Peel distal pads for length. S and M cover the next size jump.

Zoned TPU lattices

Sengeh changed the rubber. On an FDM printer you change the cell. Same map: soft over bone, firm where the limb can take load.

Hex

Print this first

Vertical honeycomb, 9 mm cells, 0.6 mm nozzle. Wall 1.15 mm is bone. 3.05 mm is PTB. Bending hexes scale about (t/ℓ)³ — 2.6× wall is roughly 18× stiffer.

Island

Fibular head

A soft disk in a firm field. That is the VIPr idea as a coupon. Islands over fibular head and tibial crest; PTB and medial flare stay dense.

Gyroid

When you want 3D

TPMS, self-supporting, stretching-dominated (E ~ ρ²). LifeNabled prints this on MJF. On the D600 it works, slower, heavier STL. Density ramps along X.

Cuff

On the limb

Short liner: inner skin + gyroid + outer skin. Soft fibular quadrant, firm anterior. Still sits under a real gel liner. Never TPU on bare skin.

Rigid · 0.6 mm nozzle

  • PA-CF or PET-CF. PETG for a first look.
  • 0.28 mm layers · 4 walls · 40% gyroid
  • Chamber 80 °C · dry nylon 12 h at 70 °C
  • Print frames distal-down. No supports on the C-gauntlet.

TPU 95A · 0.6 mm nozzle

  • ISO 10993 TPU if it will ever touch skin.
  • 0.24 mm layers · 3 walls · 18% gyroid · 35 mm/s
  • Print hex coupons skin-down. No supports. 0.24 mm · 35 mm/s.
  • Collet liners stand on the distal ring.

Drop GROWPIN_BED_620.stl on the 620 mm plate as one PLA sample — corner fiducials mark the bed. For production, print the rigid plate and the TPU plate as two jobs. Drill the dimples on the hand terminal and dummy pyramid; they are locators, not finished holes.
